Can I vote?
To be eligible to vote, you must be:
- A Canadian citizen;
- 18 years old or older on the date of the election;
- Register to vote in your area/electoral district; and
- Not prohibited from voting under any law.
Permanent residents (“landed immigrants”) and temporary residents (foreign students, foreign workers) are not eligible to vote.
How to Vote?
- Register to vote.
- Go to your polling place on Election Day. An election official will check to see if you are on the list of registered voters and, if so, will have you sign the list. Then you’ll get a ballot. If you can’t get to your polling place on Election Day you can vote in an advanced poll.
- Vote! The returning officers will show you how to mark your ballot and put it in the ballot box. The returning officer will also help you read or mark the ballot if you need assistance.
